Sandakphu @ West Bengal

“The sun always shines above the clouds” – Paul F. Davis

A phantasmagorical trek to see the 4 of the highest mountain peaks on Earth.

The summer of 2021 demands #somethingepic. We don’t make the rules – it is just how it is. So we give in and begin our summers with a trek to a surreal small hamlet nestled above the clouds called Sandakphu. At an altitude of 3636 meters or approximately 12000 ft, it offers uninhibited sighting of four of the five highest peaks in the world – Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu, and Mt.Lhotse.

Ethereal clouds form pave-stones, leading you to a dreamy village where grasslands bloom with flowers of all colors of the spectrum. If you peep in the bushes, you might see the gorgeous Indian Red Panda nibbling on leaves and berries. You’re pinching yourself now, but a spotted laughingthrush chuckles at your state of bewilderment. A repurposed 1960s LandRover enters the scene, revving up from all the kerosene it has guzzled – priding itself as the only kind of vehicle suited for these non-exiting roads, taking in locals and travellers alike to border towns of Nepal and India.

Regarded as one of the easier climbs, this trekking trail is a great way to start your never-ending love affair with the mighty Himalayas.

Not your mountain if you:
Prefer city lights to mountains
Are allergic to wild flowers
Wear dry-clean only clothes

Come off, if you:
You love a camping experience
Are kicked about being close to Nepal border
Want to embrace your mountain side
